How do I find out my language level?

Course start

When do the courses start?

Visit our free consultation hour and take a placement test or send us an email to

info@sprachwerk-aachen.de and we will send you the placement test.

Our intensive courses start every Monday at 9:30 a.m., our evening courses start on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. The start of the course for individual lessons or company courses is agreed individually.

Tax advantages

Can I deduct the course fees from my taxes?

Tax offices are generally generous when it comes to the tax recognition of training costs. Expenses for professional training are generally recognized as business expenses and can be deducted from taxes.

This includes course fees, fees for teaching materials and your travel costs to our language school.

You can obtain more detailed information from your tax advisor.

Course change

Can I change a booked course?

All participants take a placement test to determine the course level that is right for them. If the course is too easy or you want to repeat certain content from an earlier level, you can always discuss this with your teacher or visit our office. We will be happy to help you adjust your course level.

Textbooks

Which textbooks are used?

Our language school uses the first-class textbooks from telc to offer you targeted preparation for all CEFR levels. With practical exercises and authentic exam simulations, we prepare you effectively for your German exams. Experience how high-quality materials and experienced teachers support your learning process.

Group size

How big are the courses?

Our courses offer an ideal group size of 5-8 people with 4 teaching units (UE). If there are 4 or fewer participants, the number of teaching units is reduced to 2 UE per course day to take into account the increased intensity and additional individual support.

Language certification

When do the courses start?

We offer German exams at all GER levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1). The dates for the exams can easily be coordinated with us according to your wishes. After passing the exam, you will receive your certificate within a few days.

If you wish, we can also organize the language certification process for you via telc or the Goethe-Institut.

GER language levels

How are the language levels defined according to the CEFR?

These levels are part of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and help to systematically assess and compare language skills:

A1 – Beginners

Competence: You can understand and use basic phrases and expressions aimed at the satisfaction of concrete needs. This includes simple questions about personal details and everyday things.

Examples: Introducing yourself, asking for directions, having simple everyday conversations.

A2 – Basic knowledge

Competence: You understand frequently used expressions and basic phrases related to immediate needs. You can communicate in simple, routine situations requiring a simple exchange of information.

Examples: exchanging information about everyday life, talking about personal preferences, writing simple emails.

B1 – Advanced Language Use

Competence: You can understand the main points of clear standard conversation related to familiar things such as work, school or leisure. You can communicate relatively fluently and spontaneously in most situations that might arise while travelling.

Examples: Discussing hobbies, expressing opinions, writing simple reports or stories.

B2 – Independent language use

Competence: You understand the main ideas of complex texts on concrete and abstract topics, even if they are in your own area of expertise. You can communicate so spontaneously and fluently that a normal conversation with native speakers is quite possible.

Examples: Conducting discussions on professional topics, presenting detailed explanations and arguments in conversations.

C1 – Expert language use

Competence: You can understand a wide range of demanding, longer texts and can recognise the meaning of implicit information. You express yourself spontaneously and fluently, without any obvious need to search for words. You can express yourself flexibly and effectively in social, academic and professional situations.

Examples: Understanding and interpreting complex texts, writing sophisticated and detailed reports or essays, conveying precise nuances in conversations.

C2 – Nearly native speaker level

Competence: You understand practically everything you read or hear. You can summarise information from various oral and written sources and present your arguments clearly and precisely. Your language is very fluent and precise, even in complex situations.

Examples: understanding specialist literature, conducting complicated discussions, presenting complex topics effortlessly.

Visa

How do I get a visa - which course do I need to book?

We support your visa application:

1. Register for the intensive courses.
2. Pay the full course fees, including the visa processing fee.
3. Receive the original confirmation letter at your address abroad.
4. Submit this document to the consulate for further processing.

We help you simplify the visa application process to live, work or study in Germany. International students often need a visa and we offer help with applying for language or student visas.

To start the process, please contact the German embassy or consulate in your home country. You will find application forms and information about the required documents online. Please note that processing can take up to 3 months.

A language course visa is issued for 3 to 12 months and requires at least 18 hours of lessons per week. To study in Germany, CEFR level C1 is required to take exams such as DSH or TestDaF. Start your journey to C1 level with our online German courses.

Note: For your visa appointment at the embassy you will need the following original documents:

- Proof of German language skills (at least A1).
- Proof of health insurance.
- Confirmation of a blocked account.
- Confirmation letter of your course booking.
- Receipt for full payment of the course fees.

If you are from the USA, Australia, Canada, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Brazil, Great Britain or Israel, you can enter Germany visa-free for up to 90 days and apply for the German language course visa directly at a German immigration office. Citizens of other countries must apply for the visa at the German embassy before entering the country.
